2 victims killed in a drunk driving crash in Jefferson laid to rest
MORRISTOWN, N.J. – On Tuesday, the woman and young girl who were killed in a drunk driving accident in Jefferson more than a week ago, were laid to rest in Jersey City.
An SUV, in which 9 family members were travelling, slammed into a home due to which 1-year-old Tevia Booth and 62-year-old Lucy Colon died. A woman who was 5-months pregnant, 36-year-old Julissa Colon, also died in the incident.
According to an investigation, another family member, Luis Torres, had consumed too much alcohol during the family gathering at Lake Tomahawk before driving. He was attempting to pass a slower car on Route 15 when he sped up and lost control of his car, causing his SUV to crash onto the steps of a home.
Police charged Torres with vehicular homicide, aggravated manslaughter and assault by auto. He is summoned to court on 18th of September.
