36-year-old New Jersey man charged with DUI
36-year-old Larry Boerner, of Keyport was charged with multiple charges including DUI, endangering the welfare of a child, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to obey a traffic-control device and three counts of first-degree vehicular assault according to Cpl. John Day. Boerner was injured in a Sunday night accident in which 4 other people were also injured. He was charged after being released from the hospital.
When the accident happened, the court banned for him to contact 26-year-old Desiree Dejesus and his son, who is 2-years-old. They both were passengers in Boerner’s car. He was also charged with breach of release and non-compliance with condition of bail.
Day told that on Sunday, 20-year-old Jerome Lewis was travelling southbound on U.S. 13 in his vehicle, a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta and Boerner was driving his 2003 Dodge Ramnorth in the southbound lanes. Lewis’s vehicle struck Boerner’s car head-on.
Lewis was wearing a seat belt; he got life-threatening injuries in the crash. He suffered a head injury. Dejesus suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment, whereas his son suffered serious head injury and was admitted to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
Boerner was transferred to Christiana Hospital with minor injuries. He was released later the same day from the hospital on Wednesday 8 May, 2013.
For 90 minutes, U.S. 13 was blocked and traffic was tied up when the investigation of accident was being done.
