Bergen County police officer in critical condition after crash
LODI, N.J. – On Saturday morning, the vehicle of a Bergen County police officer was struck from behind by a drunk driver on Route 46 in Lodi and now the officer is in serious condition.
The incident happened around 1:50 a.m. near Summit Avenue.
2 Bergen County police cars had stopped on Route 46 due to the reason that one of them was having a problem with his police radio, according to the police.
The police car which Officer Daniel Breslin was driving was hit from behind by a Ford Fusion.
The accident resulted in Breslin bring pinned inside his vehicle.
After he was taken out of the vehicle, he was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center as he sustained a fractured skull and also suffered broken ribs.
39-year-old Breslin is father of three children and since 2010, he has been with the county police force.
The driver of the other car which hit from behind got out of it and escaped on foot but the Lodi Police Department searched him down in a backyard nearby on Christopher Court.
The suspect was identified as 37-year old Michael Ettz of Lodi and he sustained non-life threatening injuries in the accident. He was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated.
