Cell Phone Tickets in New Jersey
The rise of smartphone technology has only made it easier and easier for New Jersey residents, commuters, and visitors to become distracted while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Fortunately, to preserve road safety, New Jersey state law is catching up with the technology. Watch the following video by attorney Carl Spector to learn about cell phone tickets and what all drivers in the state should know about the penalties for cell phone use while driving.
New Jersey has recently changed its rules on cell phones. As part of this update, the state has put in place a stricter, tiered penalty structure. The state has increased the penalties on first, second, and third offenses. The amounts of the fines have increased, and the potential of having driving privileges suspended has also come into play; a third offense now bears with it a suspension of 90 days. An out-of-state conviction for driving while using a cell phone improperly can be imported and enhance the potential penalties after a conviction.
