Drunk driver charged after crashing into utility pole
MOUNT OLIVE TWP. – 26-year-old Jonathan Gonzalez was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he drove his car off Route 46 on Sunday, hitting a telephone pole and then crashing into the building of ‘My Sweet Cleaners’.
After the accident, he was taken to Hackettstown Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
On Sunday, officer Michael Carletta approached ‘My Sweet Cleaners’ on Route 46 around 5:23 a.m. for a report of a burglar alarm and a single car crash. Police officers saw that a 2007 Mitsubishi had left the roadway after hitting a utility pole and the car then crashed into the front of ‘My Sweet Cleaners’.
According to the police, he appeared to be under the influence due to alcohol consumption.
Budd Lake Fire Chief Robert Sheard said, Firefighters were on the scene until the vehicle was removed from the building and the structure was secured. JCP&L was dispatched to work on the down wires and the broken utility pole.
Police charged Gonzalez with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane.
He was released from custody and his court hearing is pending.
