Drunk Driver Flees DWI Stop In Glassboro After Car Crash
GLASSBORO – On Friday, a man fleeing a DWI traffic stop crashed his motor vehicle during his attempted escape before he was taken into custody, said the police officers.
62-year-old Bruce R. Berry Jr., was traveling along E. High Street in Glassboro when he was pulled over around 11:28 p.m. by officers present their on-duty as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” state grant program. The main purpose of the program is to reduce impaired driving during the end-of-summer holiday season.
Berry stopped his motor vehicle but then allegedly pulled away from the area and escaped from the police officers, according to the police. After a short chase through residential neighborhoods south of Rowan University’s campus, Berry crashed his vehicle into the sign in front of the Campus Crossing complex on Route 322 after failing to negotiate a turn off of Lehigh Road.
Berry was then taken into custody and charged by the police for driving while intoxicated, eluding, operating while suspended for driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
Berry was locked up in Salem County Jail in default of $25,000 full cash bail.
