Drunk driver switched places with passenger after fleeing crash scene in Fair Lawn
A driver driving his car under the influence of alcohol switched seats with his passenger after fleeing an accident scene before the police arrived. According to the Fair Lawn police, the only issue was that he was too much drunk. Both individuals were charged with DUI.
The accident occurred on 11th of August just after 3 a.m. said Fair Lawn Sgt. Brian Metzler.
A short distance from the single-car accident on nearby Route 208, police officers found the car on Morlot Avenue and Plaza Road. The names of those 3 officers are Stephen Buskiewicz, Luke Hintzen and Chris O’Shaughnessy.
Sgt. Brian Metzler said, “Police Officer (Stephen) Buskiewicz found the vehicle involved on Morlot Avenue at Plaza Road with crash damage and then discovered through questioning that the driver and passenger had switched places after the crash”. Officers issued field sobriety tests to both and they failed in the tests, according to Metzler.
Police charged 23-year-old Franklyn Bardecker with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving. His passenger, 35-year-old Lazaro Perez, was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
They both were released. Their Municipal Court hearings for the accident that occurred on 11th of August are still pending.
