Drunk driving charge added in officer’s death
MILLVILLE, N.J – According to the police, the incident took place when Seidel was fleeing from the police and crashed into Reeves vehicle leading to his death. Another officer riding with Reeves was injured during the crash, but his injuries were not life threatening. The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. at Third and Broad streets.
Seidel, a resident of Commercial Township, pleaded not guilty to the allegations which included vehicular homicide, aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault along with other charges. Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said Seidel was charged for driving under the influence. In the past Seidel has been charged with vehicular homicide and other offenses.
Reeves joined the Police Department in January 2004. Before that he served in the Marine Corps after graduating from Millville Senior High School in 1991. He left behind his wife Susan, also a Millville police officer who joined the force in 2005, along with their son Alex who is two years old. State PBA President Anthony Wieners said “Chris was a member of his community who always gave back, whether it be as a volunteer fireman or a police officer. His loss is felt by all of us. In this time of tragedy, I ask everyone to keep his family, friends and the Millville Police Department in your prayers.” Various other high ranking officials at the Millville Police Department gave their statement, convening their condolences.
