Why Is It Better To Hire Carl Spector, Not A Big Firm, To Defend Your Criminal Case?
Interviewer: Big law firms advertise on billboards, bus stops, and on the radio. What is the benefit of going with you, versus a big firm?
Carl: With larger firms, it is likely the first attorney you meet with will not even be the one that goes to court with you. You may meet the attorney who is going to handle your case, for the very first time, in the courtroom.
He or she will have some notes from your initial consultation, but there will be no rapport built up. There will be no understanding built up. There is no way for you to build any sense of trust in the person if you have just met them.
When you work with me, you work with me. I am the person who will pick up the phone when you first call, from the website. I am the person who will pick up the phone when you call my cell phone. I give it to you to ask a question.
I am the person who will go to court with you when your case is in court. I am the person who is going to speak to the prosecutor and to the judge. I am the person who is going to relay the information to you while the case is going on.
One of the most important things I find is there are two facets in getting to know my clients. One is they have to get an idea of how I communicate, since I spend a great deal of time educating my clients as to what they need to know to resolve their case. The other facet is I have to understand the way you communicate.
Believe me. I studied this in University. People communicate differently. One of the keys is building a rapport. I spend the time to do that with my clients; from the beginning with a free consultation, to the end when the case is resolved.
Interviewer: Where do you get your clients?
Carl: I get a great deal of my clients from my former clients. One of my greatest sources for clients is people I have represented before. They refer me to their family and friends, or colleagues at work. That is a high compliment.
They are saying I represented them and they recommend my services. I was able to do a good job and also make them feel comfortable enough to say, “Hey, this guy is good to work with.” Therefore, quite a bit of my new cases come from my old cases, my old clients.
I practice in New Jersey and New York. I know lawyers in both New Jersey and New York. Having been a prosecutor in Bronx County, New York, I know a lot of attorneys there. Having practiced as a criminal defense attorney in New York for over 27 years, I know a lot of attorneys there.
Having been a municipal prosecutor in Bergen County in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, I know a lot of criminal defense attorneys in New Jersey. Having practiced over 25 years in New Jersey as well, I know a lot of attorneys.
Going back and forth between the two states, there are a lot of attorneys admitted in the other state. Therefore, you may have a New Jersey attorney who will refer me a New York case; or a New York attorney who will refer me a New Jersey case.
That is also high praise. They are saying, “I could choose from many attorneys. However, Carl is the one I want to refer my source of income, my source of clientele. I am going to trust Carl to refer this client to.”
So I also get quite a bit of clients from other attorneys, especially people I worked with or as an adversary. You get to prove yourself when you work against people on tough cases.
Of course, in this age of the internet I also get quite a few cases from the internet. That is one of the reasons I wanted to put together this series of videos. I want you to know more about me, rather than be another website for another attorney.
