JERSEY CITY – 28-year-old Devaansh Attrey of Jersey City faces multiple charges after he allegedly drove drunk through the Holland Tunnel early Sunday morning.
Attrey was driving his black 2007 Toyota Camry at around 3:30 am when he swerved in traffic, crossed the solid lines and hit the curb of the tunnel at least twice. He was travelling toward New Jersey. Details of the incident were provided by Joseph Pentangelo, who is a Port Authority police department spokesman.
Another Port Authority police officer traveling behind Attrey in the tunnel instructed him to pull over after exiting the tunnel. The officer turned on his emergency lights and conveyed the message through a public address system according to Pentangelo. However, Attrey did not pull over immediately and was eventually stopped near 14th and Erie streets.
After he pulled over, officers found an open, half-empty 375 milliliter bottle of Jack Daniel’s on the floor of his vehicle. Attrey was issued a breathalyzer test which showed his blood alcohol content more than 0.13%, much higher than the legal limit.
Attrey was arrested and his car was impounded. He faced multiple charges including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving with an open alcoholic container and failure to change address on license.
No injuries or property damage were reported in the incident.
