Police Officer Escapes Injury After Drunk Driver Crashes Into Cruiser
NEPTUNE CITY, N.J. – Patrolman Thomas Holmstedt didn’t sustain any injury when a driver driving under the influence of alcohol sideswiped his parked cruiser.
On Friday at around 2:50 a.m., the police officer had pulled over another vehicle prior to the accident, the Neptune City authorities told the Asbury Park Press.
When the accident happened, he was sitting in the cruiser and its emergency lights were turned on.
According to the authorities, 24-year-old Amber Bellaus or Raritan was driving the vehicle that struck Holmstedt’s cruiser. She didn’t stop after hitting the cruiser and the officer followed her vehicle and stopped it after a short time.
Police charged Bellaus for drunken driving and she received several motor vehicle tickets.
On Friday, a telephone number for Bellaus could not be obtained and it is not confirmed if she had a lawyer or not.
