Port Authority Police Plan random DWI Checkpoints In New Jersey
Random DWI checkpoints will be conducted the weekend of November 11, 2011 by the New Jersey Port Authority Police, authorities said.
Port Authority Police did not say where the checkpoints would be conducted, but in the past they have stopped drivers at the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, among other points.
Police said that the checkpoints, which will operate during the evening and early-morning hours, were in response to heavier-than-expected traffic because of the Veterans’ Day holiday Friday.
Police also will hand out literature on the dangers of drinking and driving.
A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey did not immediately return a request for comment.
