Two men charged with drunk driving after driver switched seats with passenger
FAIR LAWN – According to police reports, before officers arrived at the accident spot, the intoxicated driver who caused an accident on Route 208 last week immediately changed his place with the passenger.
There was an issue that the passenger was also not sober, he was also intoxicated.
On 11th of August, 4 police officers were called at the accident scene just after 3 a.m., according to Fair Lawn Sgt. Brian Metzler. Of all the 4 officers, there were Officers Stephen Buskiewicz, Luke Hintzen and Chris O’Shaughnessy. When they reached, they saw Lazaro Perez, 35, behind the wheel and Franklyn Bardecker, 23, in the passenger seat.
Metzler said, “Police Officer (Stephen) Buskiewicz found the vehicle involved on Morlot Avenue at Plaza Road with crash damage and then discovered through questioning that the driver and passenger had switched places after the crash”.
The 2 men present in the car were both Edison residents. Police officers issued them field sobriety tests and they both failed. They were charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. Bardecker was also charged with reckless driving.
They got no advantage of changing the seats because they both ended up being charged. Both were released and their Municipal Court hearings are pending.
